The Benefits of Cold Calling

To continually bring in new business, companies may require their sales people to make cold calls or market their business. Cold calling to a specified market brings in new streams of revenue in areas that have not yet been penetrated by your company.

First - All successful cold calling programs start with a game plan and specified goals. What do you hope to accomplish with your marketing program? All seasoned sales people know that cold call marketing is a numbers game.

Second - Set a schedule for required cold calling. Maybe designate 10 hours of cold and warm calling each week. Set aside cold calls for Monday and Thursday and warm or follow-up calls on Tuesday and Friday. Friday calling should always be done earlier in the day since most decision makers are out of the office in the afternoon.

Next determine the best time of day to reach your designated decision maker. If you are targeting CFOs, the best time to reach might be mid morning or early afternoon.

If you are trying to reach maintenance managers, you are better to make calls as early as 8:00am. Often you will find that decision makers are more than likely available in the morning hours and not always protected by gatekeepers.

Be mindful of calling certain business during certain times of the day. It is never a good time to contact a restaurant during the lunch rush or the dinner hour. Restaurant managers are typically available early in the morning or later in the afternoon.

To achieve maximum results from a cold calling campaign, set goals for number of calls made, number of leads from the calls made, and projected sales. When you determine your objective and begin working in that direction, you will get the results needed for a successful cold calling marketing campaign.
